The Cos Cob Artists’ Circle

Inspired by the collaborative spirit of the historic Cos Cob Art Colony, The Cos Cob Artists’ Circle is a selective, six-month professional development program for practicing artists who want to deepen their work within a serious and supportive artistic community.

A group of 12–15 artists will meet monthly at the Greenwich Art Society for sustained group critiques, artist presentations, thoughtful discussion, and dialogue with visiting artists, critics, and curators. The program will culminate in a public exhibition or presentation of participants’ work.

More than a traditional class, the Circle is designed for artists with an established practice who value rigorous exchange, fresh perspectives, and the momentum that comes from working alongside other committed artists. It draws upon GAS’s history while creating a contemporary forum where artists can challenge their assumptions, strengthen their work, and develop their voices.

A Critique Seminar with Eric Holzman

Attaining the Visionary in Painting – How Art Expresses the Intuitive Self

Offering a relaxed and inclusive approach, Eric guides critique attendees to respond to their work and that of others in a deeply personal and emotional manner.

Eric’s experienced and sophisticated eye evaluates work for coherence and integrity. Are the artist’s intentions being realized within the visual language that is presented? How can issues of focus, specificity, and intention be better resolved? The question of beauty is discussed relative to the artist’s intention. Getting to the essence of artistic expression while eliminating unnecessary baggage and old ideas also forms the basis for critique. Attendees will understand how the expression of the intuitive self, made conscious and visible, is essential to creating an authentic visual style.
