Director's Note
Winter and the holidays are upon us! The fall term has ended and once again, our student exhibit in November
demonstrated the exceptional quality of the student works represented from our various classes. I congratulate everyone
for the impressive results and your continued efforts in honing individual skills and visions.
One of the central focuses of the school program is to consistently present classes that reinforce the value of training in
the core fundamentals of the visual arts. The real study of the craft and processes in the visual arts is not a flash-in-the-
pan, results-oriented endeavor. As much as all of us desire successful results, the value of learning comes from a true
understanding of the process and making a commitment to that. For as many artistic styles that exist, there are that many
various processes worthy of study.
To that end, we continue to offer our diverse program as a basis to the core
fundamentals in drawing; painting; mixed media; and sculpture, upon which to build individual, artistic visions.
As we enter our Centennial Year in 2012, please stay tuned for the exciting events we have planned...... starting off with a
collaborative art exhibit at the Bruce Museum in February highlighting notable Greenwich Art Society Member/Artists
throughout our 100 year history. We will have other events slated through the end of the year and will be inviting all of our
members to attend. Please join us for a year-long celebration of an unprecedented historical milestone for our regional
area.
We have allowed extra time at the end of the term for make-up classes should we have cancelled classes due to snow
days.
See the class schedule below and call the office for enrollment. Classes begin the week of January 9, 2012.
Good luck in your future studies!

theory; use of different surfaces and supports for a painting; discussion of current paint manufacturing
developments; and basic ideas on how to begin a painting. This is a highly technical course, so be prepared to do

| BRIDGING THE GAP – DRAWING INTO PAINTING with KATHIE MILLIGAN |
| |
This new, 10-week course will pull
apart the drawing and painting process and help the student understand value
structures inherent in making any
painting. Using various media, the student will work from observation and be
shown how to use drawing as a
means to define value structures. From there, the transition into painting will be
made by re-constructing the drawing
composition with different painting mediums. Using this as a foundation, the
student can achieve a quick solution to
laying out a painting composition with simple drawing techniques. |
