100 for 100 Centennial Campaign

  • The Greenwich Art Society will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012 !
  • We are the oldest arts organization in Greenwich.
  • Help take the Society into the next 100 years by contributing at least $100  during our campaign.
  • The funds will be used to expand the reach of the Greenwich Art Society including outreach programs, expanding our website to create an online gallery with member/artists' works for sale, hosting lectures and workshops by nationally recognized artists, and hiring a full time administrative staff.

Please help us toward this goal so that we can retain our place in Greenwich history

as a unique and thriving arts organization.

Letter from Greenwich Art Society President Anna Patalano

On the behalf of the Greenwich Art Society’s staff and board, I want to thank you for your continued support of our organization.

With our upcoming Centennial Anniversary approaching in fewer than two years, the Greenwich Art Society has grown and evolved much since it’s founding in 1912. The core of our mission remains the same and that is to continue to support the artistic growth of our community through our various programs.

In support of our mission, we feel that the Greenwich Art Society needs to grow in ways that will take it into its next 100 years. To think that this is the oldest arts organization in Greenwich (and possibly in the region) with professional artists as the majority of its membership base is quite astonishing to me. This organization has grown and survived with the ongoing help of its members – many of whom have been and are artists who understand the importance of an artistic community and how that supports our individual artistic efforts and growth. Having said this, we will be initiating a community-wide campaign to raise a substantial sum of money with which to grow beyond our first 100 years.

“100 for 100” came out of a conversation I had with one of our members who was suggesting ways in which we can grow and utilize funds to do things that we presently cannot do such as develop more outreach-type programs that will bring art into other areas of the community; expand our website to include a comprehensive, online artists’ gallery through which artist/member’s artwork can be sold; create a student ID program that will allow students (or any member) the ability to use an ID card for discounts at art supply vendors such as A.I. Friedman, Pearl Paint, NY Central, NY Art Students League, and other local art supply retailers; advertise and publicize the organization beyond the local level to include advertisements in national art publications; pay for nationally recognized artists to do workshops and lectures for our members; and hire full time administrative staff in order to execute the aforementioned projects.

Thus, the idea for “100 for 100” came into being. I sincerely believe that the continued growth and support of our artistic community will create other opportunities for both economic and cultural growth in Greenwich. People who avail themselves of our offerings often find occasion to shop, dine, and potentially seek out other services from our local businesses. We recognize that no organization or business can succeed on its own and that we are interdependent for one another’s continued success.

Therefore, in order to help achieve our immediate goals, we are asking our present members and the community in Greenwich to contribute at least $100 per individual towards a fund that can reach a goal of $150,000 by January 2012. With this kind of base, we can begin to transform many of our ideas into reality. This can be a tremendously exciting time as we move further into the new millennium. Please help us toward this goal so that we can retain our place in Greenwich history as a unique and thriving arts organization.

Our 2010 – 2011 year is about to kick off and we don’t want you to miss a minute, so renew your membership now. Enclosed is the form to complete and send in along with your check or credit card information. I also invite our members to our next Annual Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 28. Please stay tuned to a forthcoming announcement for time and location.

Sincerely,

Anna Patalano
President

(close to the Greenwich border; take Route 1 to the roundabout and head into Port Chester.

Bank is on your left heading into Port Chester next to Cafe Mirage)

GAS is looking for a Chair for this venue.

The Chair for this venue would coordinate between Customers Bank and the Greenwich Art Society.

The Chair would set up a calendar for exhibitions (approx 3-4 a year), select the artist(s),

set date for reception for the each show, coordinate all details with Customers Bank

and then keep GAS informed. The venue can handle about 35 pieces of art for each show.

We are also looking for artists to exhibit at this venue.

There is a need for approximately 35 pieces for each show which could be divided

between two to three artists, if need be. The Bank is open to abstract pieces as well as representational work,

but please keep in mind that it is a corporate environment and the subject matter must be appropriate

for this type of environment.

If you have interest in chairing this venue or exhibiting your work,

please contact the Greenwich Art Society and put Customers Bank in the subject line.
